Wilma M. Miller, 89, of Janesville, died on Jan. 6, 2014, at St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. She was born in LaGrange on July 26, 1924, to the late Harvey and Martha (Gislerud) Saunders.
She grew up on the farm in LaGrange Township, Walworth County and graduated from Whitewater High School and Whitewater State Teacher’s College.
Wilma met her husband the Rev. James E. Miller at the United Methodist Church Camp and they were married in the First United Methodist Church, Madison on Feb. 8, 1958. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2010.
She had worked as her husband’s secretary at the churches in Mt. Hope, Shell Lake, Cuba City, Eau Claire, Colfax, and Bristol. She had also worked as a schoolteacher and legal secretary.
She and her husband moved to Janesville in 1999 and became residents of Cedar Crest where she edited the Monthly Newsletter until her husband’s death. She had been involved in many church activities including the Church Women United, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include sons, John (Alice), Hudson, and Jayso, McHenry, Ill.; and grandchildren: Renee, Jade, and Jake.
She was further preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Creuziger; and brother, Chester Saunders.
A memorial service was held Jan. 11, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Wendee Nitz officiating. Interment was in Round Prairie Cemetery, LaGrange. Lasting Memorials may be made to Cedar Crest Benevolent Fund.
