Whippet swim team posts 60 best times

During one of the toughest times of the season, when the team is training the hardest, the Whitewater High School girls swim team is posting the highest amount of best times ever. On Oct. 15 against Burlington 60 best times were recorded; improving on the 56 and 41 best times earned Oct. 1 and 8, respectively.      “To continue to improve week after week is amazing and just what we need going into our last month of swimming,” head coach Gina Foucault said.

A few highlights from the Oct. 15 meet, according to the coach: “Sydney Zimdars was 5th in the 200 Freestyle with a 2:05.61 and 3rd in the 500 Freestyle with a 5:28.24. Olimpia Soto put her name on the under 30 second team in the 50 Freestyle going 29.45. Cristina Rodriguez is coming on strong in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:24.07. Cindy Manriquez put in a really nice 100 Butterfly race while teammate Karla Villarreal swam a fantastic 500 Freestyle for the first time. And, Megan Hartwell and Brittney Piper also swam the 500 Freestyle for the first time.”

Best times bested

200 Freestyle: Ally Carlson, 21 seconds; Michelle Gantz, 10 seconds; Callie Hebert, two seconds; Madeline Kuhl, two seconds; Brittney Piper, four seconds; Renee Reid, six seconds and Cristina Rodriguez, 18 seconds.

200 IM: Sara Foucault, three seconds and Emily Heckert, five seconds.

50 Freestyle: Aide Mendoza, 2.5 seconds; Sierra Minton and Olimpia Soto, one second each.

100 Butterfly: Emily Butcher, 9 seconds; Jacquelyn Caldwell, five seconds and Aide Mendoza, two seconds.

100 Freestyle: Abby Ramirez, two seconds.

500 Freestyle: Sara Foucault, six seconds; Michelle Gantz, four seconds; Ireland Marinaro, three seconds and Sydney Zimdars, five seconds.

100 Backstroke: Jacquelyn Caldwell and Courtney Frie, two seconds.

100 Breaststroke: Ally Carlson, Kara Ketterhagen and Yvanna Strait, one second; Abby Ramirez, four seconds.
