Douglas R. McConnell, of Walworth, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, after a lingering illness. He was born Aug. 27, 1964, in Darlington, to Merlyn and Dixie McConnell.
The family relocated from Darlington to Eagle River in 1978. He graduated from Northland Pines High School in 1983 and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison before returning to Eagle River.
He married Maryanne Kirby of Three Lakes in Nov. 1985.
As their family grew, they lived in the Eagle River area before moving to the Walworth area. Although the couple eventually divorced, Doug remained close to their four children who were the light of his life. Later, he married Sharon Zinser and lived in Darien.
He was a bright and articulate man, interested in history and politics. He was a straightforward person who did his best to meet life head-on, the good and the bad. He loved his family, especially his children, and was delight with the adults they had become. He was good to his parents and loyal to his siblings.
Survivors include his parents; children, Amanda (Andy) Glassman, Ashley (fiancé Kyle Luchinski), Melanie, and Brad; precious first grandchild Ruby Marilyn Glassman; siblings, Melinda (Tom) Osman, Tim (Sandi), Andrew (Susan), Melanie (Jack) Murphy, and Philip (Karen); grandmother, Lola Dunn; and former wives, Maryanne Bruss and Sharon McConnell.
