Kristi Lou Mealey, 61, Darien and Kindersley, Saskatchewan, passed away June 30, 2013, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 27, 1952, in Madison, to Phil (C.P.) and Fran Johnson.
She spent her childhood in Darien and graduated from D-DHS in June 1971. She was a member of Job’s Daughters and excelled at music, specifically the clarinet. After graduation, she attended the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and then transferred to UW–Whitewater, majoring in business education.
There her romance with fellow clarinetist Steve Mealey grew, and they were married Aug. 24, 1975. He was offered a band director position in Kindersley for the following school year and they spent their honeymoon traveling and settling in Canada.
In addition to being Steve’s assistant on countless performances, Kris used her business expertise in the travel agency, hospital office, coop, tax preparation and most recently insurance sales and licensing businesses in Kindersley. She loved music, food and cooking, flowers, birds and especially traveling.
Kris is survived by her husband, Steve; mother, Fran Johnson, Darien; brothers, Phil (Kathleen), Jackson, Jay, Delavan, and Craig (Robin), Darien; sister, Jennifer Ludowise; AFS sister, Inga Thorsen, Sweden; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many dear friends.

A celebration of her life was held July 17 in Kindersley and a family remembrance was Aug. 11 in Darien.
