Members of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War will reprise their roles as widows of Civil War veterans at the Delavan Historical Society’s program Thursday.
Originally presented at Spring Grove Cemetery during Heritage Fest, five re-enactors from the Mary Lee Chesbro Tent No. 23 will talk about the lives of the organization’s namesake, Mary Chesebro Lee, her son and Union soldier, Elon Lee, and Mrs. John Brabazon and Mrs. H.O. Johnson, who were Civil War widows.
In addition, the chairman of the Delavan Civil War Monument, Ken Wargo, will discuss the Civil War Monument and the restoration process.
Zoe Woelky, whose great grandfather fought for the Union and is buried in Spring Grove will share their family history.
To continue to support the restoration of the 1870 Civil War monument in Spring Grove Cemetery, Tent No. 23 will have a special limited edition book for sale at this program.
The program will take place at 7 p.m. at the Community Centre at Community Bank, 826 E. Geneva St., Delavan. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program.
