The City of Whitewater Police Department announced Monday that it had made an arrest in the death of a newborn found in a Whitewater field March 4.
Whitewater Police Chief Dan Meyer announced in a news release that a 39-year-old woman, believed to be the newborn’s mother, had been arrested and confined to the Jefferson County Jail.
The case remains under investigation, but charges of concealing the death of a child and resisting/obstructing an officer were being referred to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
Meyer said that no other information or commentary would be released, but added, “We thank the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation for their investigative assistance in this case.”
The dead newborn was found in a field in the area of Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park in Whitewater March 4.
Body found on Whitewater bridge
The City of Whitewater issued a news release Monday identifying the man found dead on Main Street Bridge Sunday.
According to the release, the body of 47-year-old Cameron Bicknell was discovered Sunday. After an investigation, police said they determined Bicknell had died late in the day Saturday.
An autopsy has been scheduled. The Walworth County Medical Examiner was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
“We offer our sincere condolences to those who knew Mr. Bicknell,” the police said in the release. “We want to ensure our residents are aware of the crisis resources available in the community.”
