At its meeting Monday, the City of Elkhorn Common Council voted unanimously in favor of approving the use of park impact fees to cover the costs of freight and installation of a new toddler-sized playground at Tasch Park.
According to a memo provided to the council by Recreation Director Karl Sorvick, the Elkhorn Kiwanis Club donated $11,070 to build a toddler-sized playground at the park in the beginning of the year. Since then, the playground equipment has been ordered and is scheduled for installation in the spring.
The memo notes a cost of $633 for freight and $3,571 for installation, for a total of $4,204.
Sorvick’s memo explained that park impact fees are collected when a new home is constructed with the purpose of improving parks new those new constructions. The funds are then held in a rolling account to fund projects like the freight and installation of the new equipment at Tasch Park.
According to Sorvick’s memo, the park impact fees for the Tasch Park project will be allocated from six homes constructed on East Emily Avenue and Sweetbriar Drive between Dec. 16, 2014 and Dec. 10, 2015, from which the city collected a total of $4,858 in park impact fees.
A motion to approve was passed unanimously by the council.
