ELAINE F. BARRETT

Elaine Florence (Benedict) Barrett – June 11, 1934 – October 2, 2020.

Friday, October 2, 2020, occurred the death of Elaine Florence (Benedict) Barrett, a highly respected citizen of the community, with long family ties to the Sharon, Wisconsin and East Troy, Wisconsin Communities.

Elaine was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 11, 1934, to Henry and “Vera” (Hunsicker) Benedict and at the time of her death was in her 86th year of life.

Her family came to East Troy in 1941 when Elaine was 6 years old and lived in Miramar on Juniper Street, where she attended Stone School and later, East Troy High School.

She met Terrence John Barrett on the Village Square in East Troy in about 1950 when he came to town, from Chicago, to visit his younger brother Dan, who was a counselor at Divine Word Seminary. They married in November of 1951 after exchanging love letters through the mail.

Terrence and Elaine lived on Division Street with her parents before moving to Burlington and welcoming their first two sons, Michael and Lawrence. In 1955, they moved into the home that had belonged to Terrence’s parents at 409 Main St. (later renumbered to 3043 Main St.) in East Troy, before welcoming their next four sons, Kevin, Dennis, Thomas and Jeffrey.

In 1977, the Barretts moved to Iowa for a short time before moving to Exton, Pennsylvania in 1978 for Terrence’s job. Together, they spent the next 33 years at their home in Exton. In 2011 they decided it was time to move back to Wisconsin, where they purchased a home in Elaine’s parents’ hometown of Sharon, Wisconsin.

Elaine was widowed in 2012 after the death of Terrence and continued living in her home in Sharon until her death.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, all but one of her seven siblings, her sons: Dennis, Thomas and Jeffery, her husband, Terrence and her granddaughter, Bailey Barrett.

She is missed by those living, her sons: Michael Barrett (Anita Gordon) Dayton Ohio, Lawrence Barrett (Constance Robran) East Troy, Kevin Barrett (Georgia Gibus) Delavan and Wendy Barrett Sharon. Also missing her are 15 grandchildren: Theresa, Patrick, Carrianne, Tony, Andrea, Terry, Aubrey, Sean, Josh, April, Hank, Ian, Melanie and Ryan. She leaves 18 great-grandchildren: Keegan, Daniel, Hayley, Elijah, Owen, Lydia, Emerson, Copley, Brady, Lucy, Zoey, Rory, Madigan, Jack, Caroline, Jaxon, Mason and Jameson. She also leaves her youngest sibling, Ken Benedict and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rest well. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
