At its Sept. 17 meeting, the Walworth County Finance Committee voted in favor of recommending the approval of a resolution authorizing the closure of Highway Project CTH B and transferring the remaining budgeted funds to the Road and Bridge Construction Committed Fund Balance.
The project focused on a section of County Highway B between Gregory Drive and County Highway H in Genoa City. According to the resolution, the road construction project was originally slated to be a joint effort between the county and the Village of Genoa City, with the project to be funded by the tax levy. The road construction project was slated to take place during 2020.
However, the resolution states that the project was sent out for bids on two occasions, and in both cases, the responses received were poor with bid amounts exceeding the budget for the project.
As such, the document states that Walworth County Public Works has closed the project at this time and reprogrammed the County Highway B project into its 10-year capital improvement plan for redesign and construction at a later date.
In the meantime, the resolution notes the project is no longer a joint effort with the village, meaning the Village of Genoa City will be completing any needed improvement work separately from Walworth County at this time.
According to the resolution, the total revised county budget for the project was $1.14 million, out of which all bills and costs associated with the project up to this point have already been paid. Total actual county funded project costs were listed at $134,398 in the resolution, leaving just over $1 million in unused funds for the project.
With approval by the County Board of Supervisors, the recommend resolution would officially close the County Highway B project at this time. Approval would also transfer the remaining, unused funds from the project over to the Road and Bridge Construction Committee fund balance account within the County’s Capital Projects fund account for future use.
