The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Monday, Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan.
As the result of COVID 19, in accordance with the CDC guidelines, the Red Cross will be changing our normal protocols to include the following:
- All donors and all staff will wear face masks
- Enhanced Disinfecting of surfaces and equipment
- Providing Hand Sanitizer throughout the donation process
- Temperature checks prior to entering the center
- Following social distancing guidelines between donors in all areas
When the Delavan-Darien donors give blood, the total time commitment from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave is usually about one hour.
The actual blood donation takes about eight minutes. In those few minutes, a donor can make a difference between life and death for up to three patients. Donated blood may be used to help an accident victim, a cancer patient, an organ transplant recipient or someone with hemophilia.
In this region, the American Red Cross must collect over 950 blood donations each day to meet patient need.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed consent form) and weigh 110 pounds or more. It isn’t necessary to know the blood type to donate.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of ID are required at check-in. Appointments are required and can be done by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
