The Community Space was able to put a $3,025 Community Action Grant received from the Whitewater Community Foundation in June to immediate use.
The Community Space, a local nonprofit group, was able to purchase a full-sized walk-in cooler and freezer from the nearby and recently shuttered Subway sandwich shop.
The new appliances will allow volunteers at TCS to accept more food donations for distribution to families in the Whitewater area.
The Whitewater Community Foundation’s mission is to “Enhance quality of life in the Whitewater area via educational, cultural, charitable or benevolent expenditures” through scholarships and community action grants.
The Community Space provides food, clothing, housewares, furniture, and more to people in need.
Opened in January 2019, The Community Space has served as hub for exchanging ideas.
A gathering area is available for people to work on a puzzle, enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee, or simply enjoy the company of others.
TCS is privately funded and staffed by volunteers.
The former Clothes Closet runs out of TCS and the Little Free Pantry in the vestibule provides 24/7 access for people who might need to pick up some groceries or toiletries, and it also allows people to drop off donations.
Volunteers are welcome, and people are invited to visit The Community Space just to “check it out.”
