The Town of Delavan board tabled decisions on a funding plan and bid awards for the renovation of the Community Park building known as Water’s Edge on July 21. Board members did make clear the board is still committed to the project despite rumors to the contrary.
Town Chairman Larry Malsch said he and board members were contacted by several members of the community prior to the meeting with concerns about where the board stood on the project. He said there seemed to be a lot of untrue information going around.
Malsch said some people had heard the board was considering not moving forward with the plan to renovate the park building into a venue that will be capable of hosting 60 wedding receptions a year along with other events. Others had heard some money being spent on the new fire station was supposed to have been spent on the park building. Malsch said neither rumor is true.
He said the board has questions about how the cost of the proposed renovation has increased but no one on the board is against the plan.
“There has been a lot of misconception and misleading information in the public,” supervisor Lynnette Phillips said. “The board is 100 percent in support (of the plan).”
Phillips agreed there are questions about how the cost went up but that should not lead to personal issues dividing the board on the issue.
“We are being fiscally responsible with the town’s dollars,” she said.
