Land O’ Lakes baseball returned for its 99th season last weekend and the East Troy Express is fielding a team for its 49th consecutive season this year.
Although, there is a changing in the guard this year in the make-up of the roster, the Express asks area residents to come out and support the local nine this season.
“Youth, energy and enthusiasm will try to replace the experienced veteran teams of the past years, as many of the returning players have decided to retire,” Express coach Kelly Lehman said.
For much of the spring it looked like the Express was in danger of not fielding a team this season, but were able to rally some players and are now ready to open the season, Lehman said.
“In the 48 past years of Express baseball there have been a lot of great players and teams that have worn the jerseys for the East Troy Express,” he added. “Although this team is very young, and surely will experience some growing pains against the more veteran teams in the league, they hope to continue the proud East Troy Express tradition.”
Anyone looking for a family friendly Sunday sporting event, is invited to join the Express Amusement Park Field in the Tom Rossmiller Park Complex. All games start at noon.
The grandstand is large enough to social distance, Lehman said, and the concessions group will be selling pre-packaged drinks and snacks for safety.
The Express season opener was June 14, against Merton. East Troy lost, 8-2.
