Wisconsin and Chicagoland’s original safari adventure is now the region’s first and only drive-through safari park.
Safari Lake Geneva, which had formerly only allowed guests to tour the park on a guided wagon ride, made the decision to allow customers to drive their own vehicles on newly installed gravel roads.
The change was made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that has shuttered zoos and other attractions around the country, a press release said.
“Governor Evers’ Safer at Home order has forced us to suspend our Guided Safari Adventure for the foreseeable future,” “Jungle” Jay Christie, the park’s owner and founder, explained. “We are able to remain open, as we are a home-based agricultural business and wildlife sanctuary, which is defined as ‘an Essential Business’ in Section 13(c) of the order, specifically ‘businesses that provide food, shelter, and other necessities of life for animals.’”
To fully comply with social-distancing regulations, the safari park is offering its all-new “Drive-through Adventure.”
“Additionally, admission and animal feed sales must be made online with a credit card. Cash payments are not accepted. The provided feed cups are sanitized after each use and our gift shop and walk-through area are also closed until further notice,” Christie said.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “at this time, there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the virus that causes COVID-19,” the press release stated.
