Newly elected Delavan Mayor Ryan Schroeder said it didn’t take him long to come up with an idea fitting for his first official act.

“It didn’t take long to think of the concept of adopt a park in the City of Delavan and encourage community individuals to cleanup parks in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day,” Schroeder said.

He said after coming up with the idea, he then got approval from the Police Chief and Walworth County health officials before moving forward. They gave the green light so he created the event on Facebook, to clean up the parks in Delavan at 10 a.m. last Saturday.

“We literally only had a week to try organize, so not as much time as I would have liked. Once the Facebook event was out, it was simply word of mouth through social media from there,” Schroeder said.

  1. Great idea! But Delavan really needs more waste bins!! The empty plastic barrels are good but please don’t paint them! They only look trashier when the pain weats off. It the city supplied more waste bins, there would be much less garbage and dog waste. Love the clean up idea!! I have been asking for more waste bins forever. Thanks Mayor Ryan!
