Stay where you are, for now

Walworth County health officials are advising seasonal homeowners to stay at the primary residence until the COVID-19 health crisis has passed.

County health officer issues guidance for seasonal homeowners

The Walworth County Division of Public Health issued travel guidance April 1 for seasonal and second homeowners, asking that they stay in their primary homes for the duration of the Safer at Home order.

The guidance targets both in-state and out-of- state travelers and cited the importance of avoiding travel to limit disease spread and to preserve Walworth County’s healthcare resources.

“If you have a seasonal or second home in Walworth County, please delay your travel until this crisis abates. You are an important part of our community, and we look forward to seeing you when the Safer at Home Order Expires”, Public Health Officer Erica Bergrstom said.

Walworth County has a high population of older adults, and this group is at higher risk for severe illness. Bergstrom added, “Nearly 18% of Walworth County residents are over 65, and it is our priority to keep our older residents safe and healthy.”

The Public Health Division further advised that if people choose to travel to Walworth County in spite of the guidance, that they bring sufficient supplies for a voluntary 14-day quarantine.

Walworth County Division of Public Health continues to monitor the spread of the disease and implement practices to reduce transmission.

“We are working with our local, state, and federal partners to deal quickly and effectively in the event people have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been around people who have been infected with the new coronavirus,” Bergstrom said.

This is a rapidly evolving situation. For the latest information, visit the Center for Disease Control website at cdc.gov and/or the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website at www.dhs.wisconsin.gov.

  1. I live in the Cliffs of Fontana and our management company, Lakes Property Management, sent our neighborhood this article but in their cover letter to us called these advisories, restrictions. This has upset many of our residents whom only live in Wisconsin half the year. I am sure this is not the message you are trying to convey. Restrictions stop a person from doing something or going somewhere. This confused many people due to the fact they felt the could not return to their home due to possible punishment.
