Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walworth has what Rebecca Roehl describes as an excellent education program for children and adults. On Feb. 2, the people attending the service were treated to a children’s program that the leaders and children worked on as part of their Wednesday night education classes.
The students and teachers meet on Wednesday evenings during the school year, starting with a meal for everyone at 5:15 p.m., Roehl explained. That’s followed by class time and they finish the evening with a 30-minute family worship time for everyone.
“Over the last month, much of the time was taken putting this program together,” Roehl said.
About three times during the school year, the Faith Formation students put on a program during the 9 a.m. Sunday service worship time. Due to the timing of winter break from school this year the church’s annual Epiphany Program was moved to Feb. 2 and became a ‘Presentation of Our Lord Program.’
“The students put on two skits, read a poem and sang several songs allowing them to really dive into the meaning of baby Jesus as the light of the World; the Messiah who came for all people,” she said.
Roehl said a lot of time and effort was put into preparing for the program.
“The students and teachers worked very hard, practicing for four weeks prior to the program,” she said, adding that Angie Kynell wrote the majority of the scripts and directed the program while Tom Stanfield accompanied most of the music.
Some of the other people who helped were: Amanda Bender, Sydney Bender, Tanya Butke, Rochelle Freymiller, Rose Haeni, Barb Nordmeyer, Kristi Reierson, Rachel West, and Lisa Voss. Larry Volbrecht made the Wheel of Epihany.
“The dedication of the many Faith Formation teachers and parents are instrumental to the success of the children’s Christian Education program,” Roehl said.
