SkillsUSA is an organization that gets students job ready for careers in the trades, technical education and a variety of businesses and a recent district level event at Elkhorn Area High School offered a friendly competition for area students.
“Students come in professional dress attire and compete in a job like task in their career field of interest. They receive feedback as to how to become more prepared to be successful in their future careers,” said Fred Ganter, who serves as the advisor for SkillsUSA at EAHS.
While the state competition features over 50 areas that students can practice in, the district competition in Elkhorn offered 17 areas and welcomed students from 18 schools.
“We had just a small sampling of what’s offered at the state level,” Ganter said.
The event at EAHS offered the following competitions: CNC milling, welding, auto service technology, carpentry, electrical construction, technical drafting, advertising design, photography, prepared speech, extemporaneous speaking, computer programming, CO2 dragster, team engineering challenge, job interview, medical terminology, related technical math and woodworking display.
