Wilbert “Willie” L. Recknagel, 97, passed away peacefully Oct. 29, 2019, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington. He was born on Dec. 6, 1921, in German Settlement to the late George and Hulda (Buchholz) and spent his early years on the farm with his brother, George.
He graduated high school in 1939, which was the first graduating class at the new Chester Byrnes School. He attended Ripon College for training and then served his country with honor in the U.S. Army. He worked for Trent Tube, Koeffler Chevrolet and Horter Chevrolet before retiring in 1992.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Austine, and son, Scott. He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Riek, and son, Thomas.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 12, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2665 North St., East Troy. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service.
