All it took to get the ball rolling for a day Patti Marsicano won’t forget anytime soon if ever, was a nomination by Lorie Wuttke.
“She nominated me for the Brewer’s Community Achievers Award back in April,” Marsicano, of Delavan, said.
The nomination shared what Marsicano does for the Delavan community and Walworth County.
“She and her husband Chris started a free community Thanksgiving dinner about 11 years ago. They receive donations to cover the cost while getting local restaurants to bake turkeys and prepare the meals,” the nomination said.
“Patti gets volunteers to help serve the meals while everyone watches the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” it continues.
It goes on to explain that Marsicano also arranges for local Boy Scout troops to deliver meals to those who are homebound and that the Thanksgiving feast feeds more than 600 people.
Marsicano, the nomination goes on to explain, has been president of the Historical Society for more than 15 years, published two books with all of the royalties going to Delavan-Darien High School.
“Besides fundraising and publishing, Patti organizes the Walldog Historic Murals event in which 150 artists from across the nation visited Delavan to paint 18 murals throughout the community,” Wuttke wrote.
Marsicano said she wasn’t aware of the nomination until she received a phone call in late July.
“Both Lorie and I received the phone call. I received four free tickets and Lorie received two. The presentation was set for Tuesday, Sept. 17 when the Brewer’s would be playing the Padres. We took a small bus filled with friends and family. It was even more exciting that it would be my 4-year-old grandson’s first baseball game,” Marsicano said.
Before the game she was presented with numerous Brewers memorabilia items and the certificate for being the Community Achiever for September.
“Lorie and I went down onto the field. Once on the field I was presented with a personalized Jersey from a representative from Meijer. This Meijer representative was Stacy Maynard who, while chatting, I discovered lives in Delavan,” Marsicano said.
“After receiving my jersey, I threw out the ceremonial first pitch and went back to my family and friends in the stands and watched the Brewers win 3-1,” she added.
