The Elkhorn Area High School girls soccer team scored two goals in each half and beat Westosha Central 4-1 on May 23 in the final match of the Southern Lakes Conference tournament.

With the victory over Central, the Elks clinched fourth place in the Southern Lakes Conference.

Elks coach BZ Kayser characterized the match against Central as a tale of two halves.

“We played really well in, probably, the first 20 minutes of the game,” Kayser said. “They started kind of controlling things in the second part of the first half.”

Madisyn Frank and Skyler Harlan each scored two goals for the Elks.

Kayser said he was concerned with both getting some of the Elks rest and also getting others playing time in advance of the postseason.

Elks goaltender Taylor Hoeft faced five shots and saved four.

The Elks’ record stands at 7-6-2 as they enter the postseason. Kayser showed faith in his side on the verge of the postseason.

“We’re going to try and win a regional title and shock everybody,” Kayser said earlier this week.

The Elks were seeded 10th in the WIAA Division 2 postseason bracket. But their season came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Reedsburg Wednesday.

Reedsburg will play second-seeded Sauk Prairie June 1 at Sauk Prairie. Sauk Prairie beat 15th-seeded Wilmot 8-0 on Tuesday.
