The Elkhorn Area High School baseball team routed University School of Hunting Valley, Ohio 16-4 March 27 as part of its spring trip to The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Elkhorn finished its trip with a 3-2 record.
The Elks played a Southern Lakes Conference game Tuesday at Union Grove, and play a SLC game today at home against Union Grove.
Elkhorn will play a non-conference game Friday against Big Foot at Big Foot High School in Walworth.
Against University School the Elks took the lead for good with a six-run second inning. The Elks used two University School errors to their advantage.
The Elks added another run in the fourth, three more in the sixth and six in the seventh. Elkhorn finished with 14 hits.
Nick Rockweiler, Chance Larson and Erik Vandyke each drove in three runs. Danny Bush and Fin Weber each plated two.
Noah Anzalone pitched five innings and allowed seven hits against six strikeouts.
Elkhorn defeated the Hopewell Area School District of Beaver County, Penn., 9-2 March 28 and defeated Brush High School of Lyndhurst, Ohio 3-0 on March 26.
The Elks lost 3-0 March 27 to Granville High School from Granville Ohio and lost 6-2 March 29 to Chardon High School from Chardon, Ohio.
Against Hopewell the Elks scored a run in the second, but took control with four runs in the fourth and led 5-1.
The Elks added another four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Vandyke and Weber each finished with two hits. Weber drove in three runs and Larson drove in two.
Mason Buelow earned the victory with a complete game. Buelow allowed three hits and struck out three.
In their first game in South Carolina the Elks used a three-pitcher shutout against Brush to get the win.
Austin Bestul, Jake Rockweiler and Larson limited Brush to four hits over seven innings and combined for 13 strikeouts – eight from Bestul and five from Larson.
Anzalone led the Elks with two hits, a RBI and a run scored. Larson finished with one hit, one RBI and a run scored. Bush also drove in a run.
