Delavan-Darien High School’s wrestling team competed in its first meet in 12 days last week – a dual on the road against Waterford.
Head coach Diego Avila said that the stretch without official competition might have contributed to the struggles the Comets experienced on the mat Jan. 24.
“We did our true varsity again, which is six kids. We only got one win, which is surprising because we did better against Burlington and they’re No. 1 in the conference. It was a rough night. I think maybe the kids not wrestling for two weeks played a factor. They came out kind of slow. But, we were one point away from four wins in all the matches,” Avila said…
Delavan-Darien lost to Waterford in the dual and in conference, the team has a 2-5 dual record. Overall, the Comets are 7-5.
“We haven’t had a winning record since I was a senior in high school, so, 2012,” Avila said. “That’s pretty exciting.”
