After a two-day battle against other area schools including a tiebreaker, Sharon Community’s volleyball team walked away winners from the 2018 BFASA Volleyball Tournament.
It was held Nov. 8 and 10 and featured teams from Fontana, Sharon, Reek and Walworth elementary schools.
In the first round of play on Nov. 8, Sharon, which was coached by Robert Piedot, Amy Uhe and Carrie Zimmerman, defeated Fontana three out of three games.
“The team played extremely well with everyone contributing to the wins,” Piedot said.
On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 10, Sharon faced a tough Walworth team in the second round and lost two out of three games. Heading into the third round, there was a potential three-way tie – depending on how the four teams played.
“Sharon took care of business during the third round against another tough opponent, Reek, which was the regular season championship team,” Piedot said.
In that third round against Reek, Sharon won two out of three games, tying their opponent for total games won during the tournament to that point. Because Sharon had won head-to-head against Reek, Sharon won the tiebreaker.
“The tournament was a great sendoff and end to the eighth grade players who battled hard throughout the season,” Piedot said, adding that Sharon also had a few seventh grade players step up and contribute in the team’s wins.
“The team did not let a little adversity stop them from achieving their goal of becoming tournament champions,” Piedot said.
