BETTY J. AKRIGHT

Betty Jean Akright, 91, of Ahwatukee, Phoenix, died Dec. 2, 2018, at Archstone Care Center, Chandler, Ariz.

She was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Readstown, to Grover and Nellie (Williams) Green. She married the love of her life, Vern Akright, Feb. 26, 1945, in Viola. She operated a day care center in her home for 35 years and assisted in the raising of many children in the Elkhorn area. She also sold Avon for 40 years. She has lived with her daughter Carole in Ahwatukee since the passing of her husband in 2011 and enjoyed her time with family and her pug, Jorja. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her children, Richard (Sheri) of San Rafael Calif., Patricia (Jack) Andrews of Tucson Ariz., Michael (Celeste) of Columbia, S.C., Barbara Bougher of Rockford, Ill., Carole Wilson of Phoenix, Steven of Elkhorn, and Keven (Carrie) of Quincy, Wash.; 24 grandchildren, many great & great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many good friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vern of nearly 66 years; her brother, Jack; and her infant sister, Lois.

A service will be held for Betty in a few months when arrangements can be made for family to gather in Phoenix. At that time, both of their ashes will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
