William “Bill” Means, 93, of Delavan, died Dec. 29, 2012 at the Vintage on the Ponds care facility in Delavan.
He was born Jan. 20, 1919 in La Grange to the late Charles Marquart and Iola Rowe. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1938. He then entered the U.S. Army and served in the third wave at D-Day. He earned the Bronze Star. He was a staff Sgt. upon leaving the service in 1945.
He married Grace Haines at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York in July of 1945. He was owner and operator of Means Trucking. He was a 67-year member of American Legion Post 95 and a member of the Delavan United Methodist Church.
He loved fishing and hunting and was also an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Grace of Delavan; sons, Jack of Tuscon, Ariz., Robert (Charlotte) of Delavan and Joe of Delavan and four grandchildren.
One brother further preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Delavan United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan Curtis officiating and Military Services by American Legion Post 95 immediately following. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time on Thursday. Burial will be after the funeral luncheon at Spring Grove Cemetery, Delavan.
Memorials to the United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer’s Foundation are suggested.
