The Delavan Common Council approved preliminary plans Sept. 18 for Meijer and Kwik Trip to come to Delavan.
Meijer is set to build a store at East Geneva Street and North Shore Drive on part of the former dog track property. Kwik Trip is set to build on the site of Delavan Furniture on Wright Street.
Michael Klingl, of Greenburg Farrow and Ashley Mack, the real estate manager for Meijer, presented Meijer’s plans for the site to the council. Klingl said Meijer plans to develop 28.5 acres of land and build a 159,000-square-foot main store. The site will also have a 3,400-square-foot fuel center. The main building will have two main entrances labeled “home” and “fresh.” The “fresh” entrance will lead to the grocery side of the store. The store will also have an entrance to a garden center and a drive-through pharmacy.
Mack said Meijer will employ between 200 and 250 employees. She said she did not know how many of those jobs will be full-time. Mack said no timeline for construction has been set as Meijer usually waits until it closes on a property to make that call.
