The Geneva Lake West Chamber of Commerce held its recent luncheon meeting at Pier 292, a private meeting room next to Pier 290, above Gage Marine.
David Barnett, chamber president, opened the Sept. 5 meeting with greetings and remarks and then introduced Pier 292 owner, Bill Gage.
Gage said Pier 292 was created as a meeting room, reception room and banquet room. He also pointed out some of the features of the room, which includes timber from the twin barns in the ceiling.
Moving on to chamber business, Gage also spoke about upcoming events including The Bridal Showcase on Sept. 30, and Santa Cause, super charity that supports 12 local charities.
Santa Cause includes a tree festival, Freezin’ for a Reason and Santa Cruise and raises thousands of dollars each year. For more information visit santacauses.org or send an email to [email protected].
Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Dave Ross was the guest speaker at the meeting. Ross first joined Governor Scott Walker’s cabinet in January 2011 as Secretary of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, which helps ensure the safe and competent practice of licensed professionals in the state, while enforcing laws that support safe and sanitary conditions in public and private buildings.
At the meeting, Ross spoke about the highway projects in Wisconsin and answered questions about when certain projects will be finished, including Highway 67, which will be done by mid-October; the Janesville to Madison project in 2020; Illinois to Milwaukee in 2020; and, the Zoo Interchange, which was nearing completion.
Following Ross’ presentation, past and future chamber projects were reviewed, members introduced their guests, and new members talked about their businesses.
