The City of Elkhorn Finance and Judicial Committee voted in favor on Aug. 27 of recommending to the Council renewal of the city’s property insurance with the Municipal Property Insurance Company at a $40,486 premium for the year.
City Finance Director James Heilman said the City of Elkhorn was with the State of Wisconsin for many years as it was the most affordable option at the time. Heilman said CVMIC, the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and another company created MPIC when the state property insurance fell by the wayside.
“It kept an insurance of what municipalities need for insurance, and also at a quite reasonable price,” Heilman said.
He noted that additions to property insurance this year include the new water treatment plant and Well No. 10, as well as builder’s risk for the new Department of Public Works building being constructed.
The rest of the story can be found in the Aug. 30 Elkhorn Independent.
