Administrator presents outdoor facility proposal to board

District Administrator Doug Parker presented an outdoor facility plan and proposed referendum to the Big Foot High School Board Monday night.
The board approved the referendum – which includes several upgrades and additions to outdoor athletic facilities at Big Foot – to be included on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The estimated cost for the project is roughly $7.8 million, with $650,000 donated toward the project. Voters will also be asked to approve an operational referendum to the tune of $350,000 per year for three years.
The $7.8 million is a borrowing referendum while the other falls under revenue limits, which is why they must be presented as two separate ballot questions. Approval of the two referendum requests will not increase taxes during the three-year timeline, Parker said.
Regarding the outdoor athletic facilities proposal, Parker said opinions have varied greatly.
“We have people in our community who think we should build something like the $23 million dollar Elkhorn facility. There are also people who don’t want a penny tax increase. It’s a huge range,” Parker said.
