The Whitewater High School girls basketball team had little trouble with Westosha Central in a 68-45 non-conference win at Paddock Lake Saturday.
Whitewater exploded in the first quarter for 26 points on their way to a 26-8 advantage after one quarter and cruised the rest of the way.
Brooke Trewyn scored 16 of her game-high 27 points in the opening quarter.
The girls led 40-21 at the half, and 58-30 after three quarters.
“Dani Dolan had a very nice game, contributing 14 points,” head coach Judy Harms said.
The Whippets were 17 of 23 from the free-throw line, while limiting the Falcons to just 15 attempts (they made eight).
“We were able to use numerous player combinations, which was key for us as we prepare for taking on Edgerton,” Harms noted.
Vs. Jefferson
The Whippet girls got their third RVC win in as many attempts with a 51-41 win over Jefferson Dec. 6.
Trewyn led Whitewater with 20 points, with Kailey Reynolds adding 12.
Whitewater led 12-7 after one period and increased that to 22-13 at the half, and 37-24 after three quarters.
“I’m really proud of how our team played together, especially withstanding quite a physical contest,” Harms said. “We can’t take any tem for granted this year, and tonight was an example of that. Jefferson made a very nice run at the end.
“It was a nice test for us, and a good lesson to work on maintaining our intensity all four quarters.”
Harms noted that Jefferson did a nice job on Trewyn and she adjusted to it.
“She had some beautiful assists, knocked down some nice outside shots and, overall, involved more team play tonight,” Harms said.
The Whippets were 15 of 22 from the foul line, while Jefferson was 15 of 21.
“We gave them way too many free shots at the line, something we will need to avoid in the future,” Harms said.
