Though located a bit off the beaten path, Babe Mann Park could be described as the ideal location for the Elkhorn Community Day event slated for Saturday.
Now in its third year, the event was created as a family-friendly way to kick off summer and features live music and local groups performing, food, beer, kids’ games and activities, a 5K run/walk, and car and water ski shows.
“It really is suitable for the whole family and is a great way to be part of a community event. From walking around to see the cars on display and watching the local community groups perform to supporting the food trucks and ski team,” said Chris Clapper, executive director of the Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce.
The 9th Annual Run United 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:15 a.m. and 1-mile fun run for kids will start at 8:45 a.m. To register for the run/walk in advance, visit www.uw-wc.org. Same-day registration will begin at 7 a.m.
The 4th Annual Father’s Day Pride & Joy Car Show will get rolling at 10 a.m. in and around Babe Mann Park. It’s open to all makes and models and a dash plaque will be given to the first 75 cars. There is no fee to enter but donations for the Elkhorn Food Pantry are encouraged.
Items will be available for purchase at the food trucks and beer tent and live music and community performances will be featured throughout the day.
At 5:30 p.m., the LAS Water Ski Show Team, which joined forces with the Minneiska Ski Team this year, will perform a free show on Elkhorn Lake.
Babe Mann Park, 951 Proctor Dr., Elkhorn, is located just south of town. Despite the construction on Highway 67, the park can easily be accessed via Highway H south to Koopman Lane to Proctor Drive (watch for signs.)
