Barrett Memorial Library and the Williams Bay recreation and police departments have joined forces to welcome summer with a new event – the Bay’s Summer Kick-off Bash.
The event starts at 4 p.m. June 6 at Lions Park and will feature games and activities, hot dogs provided by the police department and music by the Potts & Pans Community Steel Band. At the event, children, teenagers and adults will be able to register for the library’s summer reading programs, which run June 12 to Aug. 7 – and for Recreation Department programs and activities. In the event of rain, the Summer Kickoff Bash will move to the Williams Bay Grade School gym.
Also new this summer, Barrett Memorial Library staff members will present story time at Helen Rohner Children’s Fishing Park at Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy on four Thursdays – June 7 and 14 and Aug. 2 and 9 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The library also plans three family reading incentive events, which will include duct-taping a Williams Bay police officer on June 29, a village celebrity dunk tank on July 20 and “Coach Dave gets a colorful new ‘do” on Aug. 17.
Other summer activities at the library include:
- LEGOS and beads – 1:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays to Aug. 6;
- Story time at the library – 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays June 12 to Aug. 7;
- StoryWagon – 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays June 21 and 28 and July 12, 19 and 26;
- Science, technology, engineering, art and math activities – 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays June 1, July 6 and Aug. 3 for children 3 to 5 years old; and 1 to 2 p.m. June 15, July 20 and Aug. 17 for first- through sixth-graders;
- Sunshine and Stories – 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays June 29, July 27 and Aug. 24 for 3-year-olds and older. This event will be a team effort with Delavan’s Aram Public Library and be held at Community Park at Highway 50 and South Shore Drive in the Town of Delavan;
- Teen Book Group – 11 a.m. to noon Thursdays, June 21, July 19 and Aug. 16;
- Teen Game Nights – 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, June 29, July 27 and Aug. 31;
- Teen Movie Nights – 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays July 6 and Aug. 3.
