The Elkhorn Area High School boys basketball team took its shot at one of the state’s best players Jan. 13 in a non-conference game at Whitnall High School in Greenfield. Whitnall’s Tyler Herro scored game-high 42 points and helped the Hawks beat the Elks, 74-59.
The Elks lost 79-68 Jan. 12 in a Southern Lakes Conference game against the Panthers at Wilmot and beat Union Grove 56-42 Jan. 9 in a SLC game at Elkhorn.
“It was fun getting to play against a top player like that,” Elks coach Josh Skatrud said of the game against Herro and Whitnall. “He is the real deal. I thought our guys bounced back from a tough game the night before, but our margin for error was pretty small, and we made some mistakes late in the first half that gave them a lead.”
