The Association for Prevention of Family Violence will announce the name of the domestic violence shelter at a Victory Over Violence fundraising dinner at Simple Café on Wednesday.
The fundraiser will be Oct. 25 at Simple Café in Lake Geneva with seatings available at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Dinner tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the APFV office or by calling 262-723-4653, at Advia Credit Union or at Simple Café.
The winner of the Domestic Violence Shelter Build Naming Contest will be announced at the dinner.
A special menu of three selections – griddled chicken in herb sauce, pork loin with honey BBQ sauce or Rigatoni with Pomodoro cream sauce – will be served, along with mini apple streusel. The event includes an hourly 50/50 raffle and bucket raffles.
All proceeds will go toward APFV’s fight against domestic and sexual abuse in Walworth County.
About 70 percent of APFV’s clients are domestic violence survivors. Last year more than 700 families affected by domestic violence were helped by APFV. This translates to 1,820 individuals (primarily women and children) in Walworth County.
“One of the toughest issues our organization faces when we are helping individuals or families who are in danger because of family violence is finding a safe place to stay,” Heidi Lloyd, executive director of the APFV, said.
The APFV is currently working on a capital campaign to raise funds for a much-needed emergency shelter for domestic violence victims with a goal to have it open by 2020.
APFV hosted a month-long contest to choose the shelter’s name before it is built. The winner of the chosen shelter name and $250 prize will be announced at the Oct. 25 event.
