Coach Gina Foucault called the conference relays at Lake Geneva Badger a “great meet” for Whitewater, as the Whippets earned medals in four of the 13 relay races and finished fourth overall.
Grace Fanshaw, Brianna Zimdars, Sophia Fanshaw and Ella Houwers brought home medals for the Whippets in the meet Aug. 24. The relay team helped Whitewater place second in the 200, 400 and 500 freestyle relays. They won the conference championship in the 1000 freestyle relay, upsetting the Burlington co-op team by only .67 seconds with a time of 10 minutes 47 seconds.
“We had many great races and had several girls swim this meet for the first time,” Foucault said. “Freshman Amber Krebs proves to be a great addition along with many returning swimmers from last year. The whole team came to the meet and did a great job supporting the crew that go to swim.”
First-time swimmers earning their spots on the roster for that meet were Caroline Crowley, Ellie Treder, Dalia Velaquez, Sarah Morales and Mikael Schmit.
“While everyone swam well and put in great effort, a few relay splits really stood out as outstanding early times,” Foucault said. “I was very happy to see Maddie Elworthy split a 29.15 in the 50 Freestyle. Ellie Treder had a solid 200 in the 1000 freestyle relay, going 2:31. Amber Krebs (had a) 31.60 (split) in the 50 Butterfly, anchoring the 200 Butterfly relay and swam to a 1:11 in anchoring the 4×100 backstroke relay.
“This was truly a great meet to see what we need to improve and gage where we are in our training. I am very happy with our results and am looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Foucault thanked the Sedmak and Truesdale families for providing the post meet meal. Whitewater’s next meet is Thursday. Sept. 7 at Delevan-Darien at 6 p.m.
