Donald G. Schwigel, 78, of Delavan, died July 5, 2017, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.
He was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 13, 1939, to Lewis and Martha (Piotroski) Schwigel. He graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee. He was married to Ruth Ann (Larsen) Sterken of Delavan. He worked as a custodian at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church before enjoying his job at Dewitt’s Grocery Store. “Donny” was an avid bowler in his younger years and was known for playing the drums in many polka bands across Milwaukee. Locally he played with the Side Show Band for parades and gatherings. He loved to dance and was known for making everyone around him feel happy.
Donny is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Schwigel) Sirkman, of Delavan; grandchildren, Maggie, Lizzie and Scott; son Thomas (Kelly) Schwigel, of Delavan; granddaughter Becca; sister Dorothy Antoniewicz, of Milwaukee; and brother Robert, also of Milwaukee, as well as many nieces and nephews who adored their “Uncle Donny.”
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann; his parents Martha (Walter) Brunette; father Lewis Schwigel; and sister Lorraine (Schwigel) Hamilton.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave., in Delavan. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Lake Geneva. Memorials can be directed to Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan to assist the family.
