The Whippets tennis team rolled to victory in a home meet against University Lake with a number of stellar performances, including from their No. 1 singles player and No. 2 doubles duo.
The No. 1 singles player, Dineth Gunawardena, won his match without suffering a game, 6-0, 6-0. But, the domination just started there.
“We had a lot of wins, but our No. 2 doubles looked especially dominating,” Whippet head coach Jordan Dittmer said. “They hit a lot of solid volleys to improve their record to 3-0 as a pair. As usual, our No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles took care of business without much trouble.
“Joe [Creanza], at No. 3 singles, got down 4-5 and then won three straight games to win the set and take control of the match. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the performance of our team tonight.”
No. 4 singles player Johaly Xochipa won 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Justin Brantmeier and Mitchell Dalzin won their match nearly as convincingly as Gunawardena did, 6-1, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team – as Dittmer called dominating – of Michael Fernandez and Cole Kinson did replicate Gunawardena’s success, winning, 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 3 team for the Whippets was also victorious, as Jimmy King and Viet Vo dropped just one game, winning, 6-0, 6-1.
Whitewater will begin the WIAA Sub Sectionals on May 22 at East Troy High School. If the Whippets get past Sub Sectionals, the Sectional round is scheduled to begin on May 24, also at East Troy High School.
