Monona Grove scored a goal in each half and beat the Elkhorn Area High School girls soccer team 2-0 April 29 at home in a non-conference match.

The Elks played a Southern Lakes Conference match Tuesday at home against Burlington, and play today at Union Grove in a SLC match.

Elkhorn plays a non-conference match at home Saturday against Janesville Craig.

The Elks beat East Troy 3-0 April 27 at home and won 2-1 April 25 at Milton.

Elks coach BZ Kayser said the Elks are having a hard time matching up with some teams from the Badger Conference, which consists of suburban Madison schools and includes Monona Grove. The Elks lost 3-0 April 13 in a non-conference match at Badger Conference member Wanuakee.

The Silver Eagles’ Sara Paulson scored in the 18th minute and Yasmine Faouzi scored in the 75th minute against the Elks.

Goaltender Izzy Bochat earned the clean sheet in the Elks’ victory against East Troy.

“They never got any good looks,” Kayser said. “We controlled the whole game. We just couldn’t finish. I don’t know if were hungover from the Milton win, or what. We just didn’t play very well at all.”

Leesa Sesing gave the Elks a 1-0 lead with a goal in the sixth minute. Elkhorn led 1-0 at halftime.

Kayla Malsh scored in the 69th minute off an assist from Olivia May and have the Elks a 2-0 lead. Sesing gave the Elks a 3-0 lead with a goal in the 83rd minute.

The Elks played Milton for the first time since losing 2-1 to the Red Hawks June 4 last season in a regional final match at Elkhorn that ended Elkhorn’s season.

The Red Hawks scored in the 14th minute and took an early lead, and led 1-0 at halftime before the Elks tallied two goals in the second half.

May scored in the 52nd minute and Sesing scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 66th minute.

“Last year, it was the best match the girls played all year and this year, it’s the best game the girls have played so far,” Kayser said of the matches against Milton.
