The Elks scored seven runs in the first inning and won 11-0 April 21 in a non-conference softball game at Edgerton.
The Elks lost 9-4 April 20 at Wilmot and 7-6 April 18 at home to Union Grove in Southern Lakes Conference games.
The Elks (2-4, 0-3 SLC) played a SLC doubleheader Tuesday at home against Westosha Central. Elkhorn plays today against Badger at Lake Geneva, and plays arch rival Delavan-Darien Friday at home, in SLC games.
Edgerton (5-2) managed two hits against Elkhorn freshman pitcher Izzy Regner. Regner struck out seven in six innings – the game was called early because of the 10-Run Rule – and threw just 69 pitches in earning a complete game shutout.
Rachel Gosh drove in two runs on two hits and scored twice for the Elks. Morgan Hunter tallied two hits and drove in two runs. Regner also finished with two hits, a RBI and a run scored.
Whitney Salamone and Ryley Rand each finished with two hits. The contest against Edgerton served as a respite for the Elks.
Union Grove (4-3, 3-1 SLC) advanced to state last season. Wilmot (4-3, 2-1 SLC) is fifth and Central (8-1, 6-0 SLC) fourth in the latest Division 1 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association state poll.
Wilmot rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Elks. Elkhorn led 4-2 after posting a run in the first and three in the third. The Panther scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Salamone drove in three runs on two hits. Hailey Remington finished with two hits.
Against the Broncos, Union Grove scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. The Elks trailed 6-2, and tied the score with two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Coach Steve Remington said the game against Grove is a sign the Elks are close to being the team he knows they can be.
“We are competing,” Steve Remington said. “This is where we have grown as a team since last year. We are changing the culture in Elkhorn – that losing is not accepted.”
Salamone racked up three hits and drove in three runs. Regner pitched a complete game in a losing effort and struck out 10.
