The Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team finished seven strokes out of fourth place April 18 at Twin Lakes Country Club in the season’s second Southern Lakes Conference Major.
The Elks finished third April 17 in an invite at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa.
Elkhorn played Monday in an invite at Geneva National Golf Club in Lake Geneva, and played Tuesday at Dellbrook Golf Course in Delavan in the season’s third SLC Major.
The Elks play Friday and Saturday in a two-day tournament at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville.
Elkhorn finished with a team score of 359 at Twin Lakes Country Club, good for fifth. Westosha Central finished fourth (352).
“It’s one of those courses that’s not very long, but can get you in trouble in hurry, with trees and the way some of the holes are set-up,” Elks coach Steve Fisher said of Twin Lakes Country Club.
Kyle Schoeneberg shot an 88 and finished 16th to lead the Elks. Schoeneberg posted nines of 45 and 43. Liam Ahler finished 19th with an 89.
Nick Keller shot a 90 and finished 21st and Q Woyak carded a 92 and finished 23rd. Nolan Shirk shot 100.
“Being in the 350s this early – in the past we haven’t been this low for maybe a few weeks yet,” Fisher said. “I’m hoping we can continue to drop some strokes as the weeks go along.”
Badger’s Connor Duggan won individual medalist honors (73) and led Badger to a first-place finish in the major (313).
Wilmot finished second (331) and Union Grove third (336). Waterford finished sixth (390), Burlington seventh (395) and Delavan-Darien eighth (440).
Fisher said the Elks golfed among construction equipment at Sand Valley, which does not open until May 2. Private play has been allowed sporadically. The course will be part of a larger, public resort.
“I think they did great, with absolutely no clue what we were in for,” Fisher said. “We just heard stories and rumors about how the course was.”
The Elks played in a nine hole, best ball scramble at Sand Valley and posted a total team score of 35.
Individually, Woyak shot a 42. Ahler finished at 48, Keller shot a 49 and Schoeneberg carded a 50. Shirk finished at 51.
“It sure wasn’t easy – that’s for sure,” Fisher said. “It almost felt like driving into Arizona, with all the pine trees and sand dunes, and then a patch of green for the fairway and green.”
Wausau East and Amherst tied for first (35). Berlin and Adams-Friendship tied for fourth (37).
