Jordan Dittmer, the boys tennis coach for Whitewater High School, knew his team played against difficult competition in the Waukesha Invite. The Whippets went 0-3 in its three matches in the invite before facing Jefferson.
Against Rock Valley Conference foe Jefferson on April 13, the Whippets won three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to defeat Jefferson, 5-2. No. 1 singles player Cole Kinson and No. 4 singles player Nicholas Kuzoff both won their matches, 6-3, 6-3, respectively.
No. 2 singles player Mitchell Dalzin won his match, 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, the Whippets’ No. 1 team of Jimmy King and Viet Vo won their match, 6-1, 6-1. In No. 2 doubles, Johaly Xochipa and Joseph Creanza won their match in two sets as well, 6-3, 6-3.
The Whippets then played one of the toughest teams they played in the Waukesha Invite on April 18 – Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc beat the Whippets a week prior, and one week later, defeated Dittmer’s team, 7-0.
In No. 1 singles, Whitewater’s Dineth Gunawardena lost his match 7-5, 6-3, and in No. 1 doubles, the Whippets’ Dalzin and Justin Brantmeier lost their match, 6-1, 7-5.
The tennis team will be in action again on April 24 at home against Edgerton at 4:30 p.m.
