The Elkhorn Area High School gymnastics team lost by just 10 points – 124.125 to 114.225 – to Jefferson Jan. 9 at home in a Southern Lakes Conference meet.

The Elks lost 131.7-115.2 Jan. 5 in a SLC Meet at Burlington. They will compete Saturday in an invitational at Watertown High School.

“We had a quick turnaround from the Burlington meet,” Elks coach Amanda Lockhart said. “The girls are working on some new skills and combinations to increase their scores.

“It is still early in the season, and we are continuing to learn.”

Christa Jacobs won the balance beam with a score of 8.150 against Jefferson. Cameron Jacobson finished fourth (7.5).

Jacobson tied for third in the vault (8.050) and Jacobs finished fifth (8.0).

Jacobs finished fourth (7.45) and Jacobson fifth (7.4) on bars. Jacobs also finished fourth in the all-around (7.9) and Jacobson fifth (7.650) in the floor exercise.

Jefferson’s Brianna Eilenfeldt won the all-around (31.6). Jacobs finished second (31.535) by less than a point. Jacobson finished fourth and Elkhorn’s Tapanga Summerville finished sixth (22.725).

Burlington Co-op won every event against the Elks.

Jacobs finished third in the vault (8.175) for Elkhorn’s best individual finish. Samantha Wolfram tied for fifth (8.1).

Jacobs finished fourth on beam (7.9). Jacobson finished seventh (7.35). Jacobs and Jacobson tied for fifth (8.15) on floor.

Jacobs finished fourth on bars (7.9) and Jacobson finished seventh (7.35).

BC’s Jessica Zeitler won the all-around title (32.9). Jacobs finished second (31.725).

“Our vault scores improved a lot,” Lockhart said. “We had a lot of falls on beam, which really hurt our team score.

“A few girls tried some new skills. We are continually making progress, even if our scores don’t reflect it.”
