The Elkhorn Meals on Wheels program is in need of individuals as well as church/civic groups to assist in delivering meals to homebound seniors.
“Many groups, such as the Elkhorn Kiwanis and area churches, already volunteer, however, more are needed,” according to Colleen Lesniak, the volunteer coordinator for Walworth County.
The groups schedule volunteers for one week (Monday through Friday) every six weeks to deliver meals during the noon hour. Individual volunteers may work as much or as little as their schedule will allow.
“An hour or so of your time is all that is needed to deliver meals,” Lesniak said.
Businesses are encouraged to allow staff to flex their work schedule or take their lunch time to volunteer – “a great way to give back to the community,” she said.
Training and mileage reimbursement is provided to volunteers.
“Please consider assisting our elderly neighbors with a hot meal and daily human contact,” Lesniak said.
