Joan M. Johnson, 80, of Madison Street in Darien, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Dec. 19, 2016.
She was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Wisconsin to Theodore Christian Snyder and Clara Lavinia Knight. She married Jim McKinney in 1953 and then married Frank Johnson in 1972. Both are deceased.
She was very active in Darien seniors cards and game club and was an active member of Triune Lutheran Church. She and her husband Frank owned and operated the Darien hardware store for many years. She was a longtime Darien Cemetery Board member.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Evans, of Darien; two sons, Jeff (Jean) McKinney, of Delavan, and Jim (Peggy) McKinney, of Milton; grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily, Kristy, Kelly, Taylor and TC; and six great-grandchildren.
A gathering took place at the Darien Public Library Dec. 23 conducted by the Rev. Dale Blanchard. The family adjourned briefly to the Darien Cemetery for burial.
Memorials to the Triune Lutheran Church are suggested in lieu of flowers.
