Wrestling team looking to find its groove

The early road has been a bit bumpy for the Big Foot-Williams Bay wrestling squad.

Big Foot opened the season with a 69-5 non-conference loss Dec. 8 at Shoreland Lutheran, followed by a pair of setbacks at Saturday’s Edgerton Invitational.

The Chiefs fell 66-12 to Edgerton in one of the duals Saturday, followed by a 66-5 loss to Poynette. Big Foot also was scheduled to face Janesville Parker, but results from that matchup were unavailable as of press time.

Big Foot’s only wins against Edgerton came via forfeit at 132 and 285 pounds.

Dropping decisions to the Tide were Titus Frederick (138), by pin in 3:55; Christian Flores (152), by pin in 3:48; Ethan Roland (170), by pin in 1:35; Colton Berg (182), by pin in 1:30; and Malcolm Frederick (220), by pin in nine seconds.

Big Foot also gave up forfeits at 120, 126, 145, 160, 106 and 113 pounds. Both teams forfeited at 195.

Berryman, ranked second in the state, earned the Chiefs only win against Poynette with a 15-0 technical fall.

Falling by pinfall were Titus Frederick (138), in 42 seconds; Flores (152), in 56 seconds; Roland (170), in 34 seconds; Berg (182), in 19 seconds; Malcolm Frederick (195), in 46 seconds; and Nick Freymiller (285), by pin in 1:19.

Big Foot also forfeited matches at 132, 145, 220, 106 and 120 pounds. Both teams had forfeits at 160 and 113.

Berryman, wrestling at 132 pounds, earned a 16-0 win in the season opener at Shoreland Lutheran.

Losing to the Pacers were Flores (152), by pin in 34 seconds; Roland (170), 5-2; Berg (182), by pin in 1:47; and Freymiller (285), by pin in 1:29.

Big Foot traveled to Brodhead Thursday night for its Rock Valley Conference opener at Brodhead. The Chiefs travel to the Mt. Horeb Invitational on Saturday.

Big Foot head coach Doug Stetzer has not responded to multiple attempts for more information about the team, results and comments.
