On Nov. 5, the WIAA Sectionals took place at New Berlin Eisenhower High School and two different girls from Whitewater High School’s swim team qualified for the Division II state meet on Friday and Saturday at UW-Madison.
Senior Anna Yeazel made the most of her final sectional meet in her high school career, finishing in second-place in the 100-meter breaststroke with her time of 1:10.51. Her time marks the second-best ever from a Whippet.
Aside from Yeazel’s excellence, junior Grace Fanshaw was the second Whippet to qualify, tying for third-place in the 500-meter freestyle with her 5:19.74. That time marked the fourth-fastest ever from a Whitewater High School athlete in the event and was Fanshaw’s lifetime best.
Yeazel and Fanshaw accounted for two of 10 different top-10 finishes in the Whippets’ all-time list. Whippets head coach Gina Foucault posted on Whitewater High School’s official website about some of the other athletes.
“Our Medley Relay (Fanshaw, Yeazel, B. Zimdars and Radaj) starting things off right by breaking 2 minutes for the first time this season,” she said, via a submitted recap. “Sierra Minton had two great individual races dropping 3 seconds in her 200 Freestyle and 6 seconds in her 500 Freestyle. It was great having Sierra finish out her High School Swim career with such great swims! Madeline Kuhl also had an outstanding meet dropping over 3 seconds in her 200 Freestyle to put her 9th All Time on the Top 10 list and also dropped 3 seconds in her 100 Breaststroke putting her 6th All time in that event.”
Fanshaw also talked about Morgan Radaj, Alyssa Nelson, Lexi Hackney, Ireland Marinaro, Nicole Sedmak and Brianna Zimdars all improving upon their previous lifetime-bests.
“It was great to see Junior Lizbeth Rodriguez getting some experience swimming in her first Sectional meet,” Foucault said. “She raced hard and made us proud. It was also nice to have teammates Caitlyn Zimdars, Maddie Elworthy and Meghan Kehoe on deck supporting their teammates. Special thanks also to Maddie Elworthy for all the great pictures and videos that were posted to Snapchat and to Amy Hackney for our Good Luck treat bags! It was great day to be a Whippet!”
The WIAA State Meet will take place on both Friday and Saturday at the UW Natatorium.
