The Thrift Shoppe of Whitewater will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 22, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All members of the community are invited and encouraged to stop by for food, music, prizes, shopping and fun, according to event organizers.
“For 50 Years, the Whitewater area has found its best bargains at The Thrift Shoppe. Customers are likely to see something they wanted — even if it isn’t what they came for,” a press release stated.
Open weekly Tuesday thru Saturday, a non-profit group affiliated with First English Lutheran Church, the Thrift Shoppe is operated by volunteers and a part-time manager.
On Oct. 25, 1966, a group of First English women opened a one-room Shoppe to raise funds for children’s Sunday school.
“Now, it’s a two-story house filled with consigned and donated resale clothing, household and miscellaneous (items),” the release stated.
In 2015, the new ‘Bargain Barn’ was added and offers furniture, small appliances, tools and more.
Besides donating to church related work, contributions have been made to community programs and church fundraisers from proceeds raised through sales.
“The Thrift Shoppe has indeed been blessed with 50 years of successful growth and (we) wish to sincerely thank faithful customers, consignors, donators and friends,” the release stated.
The Thrift Shoppe is located at 123 Church St. in Whitewater.
