The Whippets saw improvement from their passing game Friday night despite a 68-26 loss to East Troy on the road. Quarterback Daniel Fuller was 20-46 passing and threw for 329 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the game.

“Daniel had a big game throwing the ball on Friday,” head coach Tom Grosinske said. “We were forced into putting the ball into the air as our running game struggled, so he was presented the opportunity to make some things happen in the passing game.”

Jimmy DuVal continues to be Fuller’s go to target as DuVal had nine receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns last Friday night. Tyler Sheffield was second on the team in receiving with seven catches for 78 yards.

“Jimmy is one heck of a receiver, he is a great athlete who wants the ball in order to make things happen,” Gorsinske said. “He and Daniel work their connection during the week and it translates to Fridays.”

East Troy quarterback Jake Dessart was 3-5 passing for 59 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Owen Goedland was their leading rusher with 10 carries for 238 yards and five touchdowns.

Quinton Schoville ran the ball for 107 yards on six carries and a touchdown for the Trojans. Dylan Jakscht also contributed 98 yards on the ground on 19 carries and two touchdowns on the ground.

Goedland was also East Troy’s leading receiver yardage wise with 43 yards a touchdown reception. Tyler Zinders also contributed a reception for a touchdown.

Goedland got the scoring going for East Troy in the first quarter as he ran one in from 35 yards out to make it 7-0. He would add on later in the quarter with a 34-yard scamper to make it 14-0.

The Whippets would get on the board as Fuller would pick off a pass and take it 58 yards for the touchdown to make 14-6. Goedland would add on for East Troy again on a 62-yard run to make it 21-6.

Fuller hooked up with DuVal on a 52-yard touchdown pass with the two point conversion being unsuccessful to make it 21-12. Goedland scored again at the end of the first on a two-yard run to make it 28-12.

In the second quarter, East Troy would add 26 points to their lead as Goedland would add his fifth touchdown of the game for a 40-yard run to make it 35-12. Quarterback Jake Dessart would hit Tyler Zinders on an eight yard touchdown pass to make it 41-12.

“Defensively we need to tackle much better pure and simple,” Grosinske said. “We continue to have our athletes in the right spot most often, yet we need to break down, sink the hips, wrap, and rally to the ball carrier.”

Dessart hit Goedland for a 42-yard touchdown pass to make it 47-12 later in the quarter. Dylan Jakscht would cap the first half scoring with a six-yard touchdown run to make it 54-12.

Jakscht started the third quarter scoring with his second rushing touchdown of the game from 11 yards out. Fuller put the Whippets back on the scoreboard connecting with DuVal on a 60-yard touchdown pass to make it 61-18.

In the fourth quarter, Quinton Schoville would get into the act for East Troy as he scampered in for a 74-yard touchdown run. The Whippets would cap the scoring in the fourth as Fuller would hit Tyler Sheffield for his third touchdown pass on a 41-yard completion to make it 68-26.

East Troy improves to 4-1, while the Whippets drop to 0-5. Whitewater will travel to Evansville/Albany on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
