Dominski, Schneider bring home third-place medals

There was no shortage of East Troy school colors around the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus at last weekend’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 State Meet.
And the Trojans put together quite the strong showing.
East Troy’s girls finished 15th overall, while the boys were 22nd in the final meet of 2016.
The Trojans recorded 17 points among the girls. Jefferson claimed the state team title with 44 points, followed by Wisconsin Lutheran with 42, Lakeside Lutheran with 37, Catholic Memorial with 31 and Bloomer with 27,
East Troy’s boys tallied 12 points in the final standings. Freedom was first with 45 points, narrowly ahead of Wisconsin Lutheran’s 43 and Little Chute’s 42. Rice Lake was fourth with 35 points and Luxemberg-Casco was fifth with 31.
Two third-place finishes, one each for the East Troy boys and girls, led the Trojans’ effort.
Junior Billy Dominski was third in the 300-hurdles (39.41), while junior Hope Schneider was tied for third with two other athletes in the high jump at 5-5.
The state high jump title went to Lakeland’s Emily Scott by just an inch, as her best effort was 5-6.
Also placing in the top eight were Rachel Bottum, fifth in the 400 (59.52); Katrina Santos, fifth in the triple jump (36-1); M.E. Dodge, sixth in the discus (124-8); and on the boys’ side, Dominski, fifth in the 110-hurdles (15.26) and Jake Wendt, seventh in the shot put (52-6 1/4).
Other results had Evan Harding, 10th in the 800 (1:59.21); the boys’ 3,200-team of Jake Remsza, Nolan Dallas, Eli Leising and Harding, 12th (8:11.51); Santos, 12th in the high jump (5-0); and the girls’ 3,200-team of Amanda Bustillos, Morgan Bartlett, Mackenzie Lindow and Maddie Rosin, 13th (10:14.64).
The boys’ 1,600-tem of Dominski, Eli Leising, Harding and Remsza was ninth in the preliminaries (3:26.06), while the 800-team of Leising, Allen Olson, Miles McCarthy and Remsza was 14th in the preliminaries, but did not qualify for the finals.
Wendt also qualified for state in the discus, but fouled in his three attempts.
Tori Miller in the 110-hurdles (16.91) and the girls’ 1,600-team of Dodge, Santos, Schneider and Bottum (4:07.28) finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the preliminaries, but did not qualify for the finals.
